I normally dont post unfinished stuff, but i probably feel an urge to get some advice on this one. I´m pretty happy with how the design worked out. There isnt much i would like to change, although some parts are yet missing and the legs in the front arent in the right position.
The point is: This is meant to be part of a scene i wanted to do and due to the limitations of my computer i somehow feel i wont be able to complete it this way. This rendering here took 25 hours (!), in 1024 and i wont even think about the whole scene. I know that the Dirt Shader needs an enormous amount of rendering time, but i like how it looks, so i´d prefer to keep it. So i need some advices to keep my design but to simplify the modellig perhaps. I just have a 400 MHz machine and this is almost the end of what was possible.
The bodyparts were created using Hypernurbs in Cinema 4D, the legs with Extrude nurbs (and relief borders), is there a way to simplify it without losing too much aspects? Or a method more adequate than my used one?
UPDATE:
Finally changed the leg positions, added several smaller elements like those pipes at the back. Arms are still missing, i have a finished model but my computer refuses to render it I only get a white shape of where the spider should be...
Anyway, i need comments wether the changes are improvements or not please
I think i will update the older version to my scraps later on...

This picture is ought to participate on some kind of rpg (?) in progress, so if you´re interested, take a look at [link]
PPC 9500, one of the old grey ones, with .. oh, 200 Mhz originally, now with a G3 from 1999. I like it and its somehow indestructible, its just not really fast anymore
no problem, but I think you need a new mac. hehe. That's really amazing you can render all of the with such an old computer. I used to wonder how PIXAR made Toy Story with old macs back in 94/95. But now I see it's possible with patience. I don't think I could be patient waiting for all of those hours of rendering.
well they just did the design work on macs and the rendering on some Cray computer i think. And the movie wasnt "that complex" if i remember right, but yes; same for computer effects like in Jurassic Park in 93 and so on, those were amazingly good too...
The patience thing got better with OSX, with 9 the whole computer was blocked
This "thing" looks so cool! Very creative. I wouldn't even be scared of it, although I am of any spider (today I woke up screaming aloud because I dreamt a spider was attacking me ), because this one looks more like an insect-like hybrid with eight legs. There's a special thing about spiders that makes we wanna scream and run away immediately, and that is not the case with this one. Which is good in my opinion, but if you want to go for the real "spider-look" the body should be lower than the legs, more like it is hanging from the legs instead of being supported by them. If you get what I mean But probably you already used an anatomy reference and I'm just being odd

I've always held a desire to own a mac. It's my dirty secret that I never tell anyone.
